Become an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer In Service To America), serve in the Appalachian Coalfields of West Virginia, and leave a positive footprint – all will give you valuable work experience boosting your attractiveness to future employers. The AmeriCorps VISTA program, sometimes described as Domestic Peace Corps, provides members medical insurance, a monthly living allowance of ~$1,200, childcare benefits, and delayed payment of student loans (with relief from paying interest). Additionally, at the end your service, you are eligible for a cash stipend of $1,200 or an education award for ~$6,300. You can make a difference in one of the friendliest but most economically depressed regions in the country.
