Located in scenic Mullens, West Virginia, the Mullens Opportunity Center focuses on improving education, economic conditions, environmental quality, historical preservation and facilities for social and recreational use. The building, formerly Mullens Grade school, currently houses a variety of programs and rooms beneficial to the community. The Mullens Opportunity Center has the potential to become an even stronger asset to the community of Mullens. To reach this potential, we need you - community members - to take full advantage of the opportunities and services that we provide. Please remember that the services we provide are designed for the benefit of the citizens of Mullens and surrounding communities. In addition to using our facility to the fullest extent possible, we seek your assistance and support in getting new opportunities off the ground and suggestions that you may have about how the center can be best used for your benefit.

Mullens Opportunity Center - Programs

• The RAIL Literacy Program
  
  The RAIL Literacy Program is a free service to individuals in Wyoming County who are interested in improving their math, reading, and writing skills. Most of the program’s emphasis is placed on GED preparation and basic skills for adults. Also, individuals interested in compiling a resume, cover letter, or application should make an appointment. Furthermore, computer basic computer classes are offered in six-week sessions a few times a year. Keep in mind; all of the RAIL Literacy Program offerings are free!
   
• Distance Learning Center connected to Marshall University.
   
• Community Center operation for local functions such as youth dances, girl scouts, AA meetings, community meetings, etc.
   
• Housing for out of town groups coming to area to do residential repairs for needy families.
  
  
• Meeting place for area groups such as mental health, 4-H, and girl scouts.

What's going on inside the Mullens Opportunity Center?

GED Courses - Offered every Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00-9:00 PM.  The classes are free and open to the public.

Computer Lab - Donated by Marshall University, the compute lab inside MOC (room 16) features 24 quality Dell PCs with likely the fastest Internet connection in Wyoming County!  The lab is free and open to the public.

Fitness Center – Open to paid members ($ 25.00 a month), the Fitness Center has treadmills, machines, bench set, and free weights.

Intro to Computer class – This free, non-credit class is for first time or beginner computer users.  If you are interested in taking this class, please contact the RAIL staff at (304) 294-6188 for more information.

Gymnasium – The gym is opened to walkers during the day and used for organized sports during the night.  In addition, the gym can be rented out for events such as dances-from known organizations only, weddings, and large meetings.

Room rental – Individual rooms can be rented out for meetings or gatherings.  Examples: Trout Unlimited, 4-H club, neighborhood watch meetings, and line dancing classes

Adult Literacy Program-MOC staff has the ability to tutor adults in basic literacy skills.  Additionally, staff can train individuals to become Adult literacy tutors.

Heading south on Rte. 16 from Beckley

Follow Rte. 16 across the railroad tracks, through the downtown Mullens area, and across the Slab Fork River. Mullens Opportunity Center will be on your left directly after Ray Wells Chevrolet dealership. If you reach Little General / BP Gas Station, you've gone too far.

Heading south on Rte. 54 from Beckley

Follow Rte. 54 across the railroad tracks, where it joins Rte. 16. Follow Rte. 16 South through the downtown Mullens area, and across the Slab Fork River. Mullens Opportunity Center will be on your left directly after Ray Wells Chevrolet dealership. If you reach Little General / BP Gas Station, you've gone too far.

Heading north on Rte. 16 or 10 from Pineville/Welch

Follow Rte. 16 through Itmann and South Mullens, past the Little General / BP Gas Station. Mullens Opportunity Center will be on your right shortly after Little General / BP Gas Station. If you pass Ray Wells Chevrolet dealership (on right) or the Methodist Church (on left), you've gone too far.
