Farm to School

RAIL’s AmeriCorps Farm to School program was introduced to Wyoming County schools in 2015. Through the program, youth learned about the importance of local food and assisted in seeding, gardening, and harvesting produce. RAIL also provided community gardens to disabled adults in Mullens and surrounding areas. Residents were invited to build raised-bed gardens and learned how to plant, grow, and harvest crops.

Ruby Ann Ingram was previously RAIL’s Farm to School AmeriCorps member. Ruby helped students learn about gardening and agriculture. She also worked with local farmers to scale up production so that they could sell to local schools. Ruby was sponsored by West Virginia Department of Education’s Farm to School Farm to School AmeriCorps Program.
